ツケカエゴーレム Tsukekae Golem is a wonderfully inventive block based puzzle platformer in which you can take control of Tetris-esque block shapes and move them around the environment to aid your progress.
In ツケカエゴーレム Tsukekae Golem You control a quirky little creature that can split into two halves. On half will continue walking in a direction automatically, while the other half you have direct control of. You can rejoin again at any time at the press of a button, but the real clever part is what happens if you rejoin while your two halves are straddling a block formation…
If you rejoin while straddling some of the colored blocks then your character will join on to that formation, creating a big block ‘golem’ that you can move around the screen like a character – allowing you to access new areas and press the buttons required to complete the stage. There are also a few other cleverly implemented intricacies to the concept, such as being able to flip the entire structure horizontally or even being able to join up two different colored sets of blocks if you manage to straddle them both at the same time.
It’s a fantastic game, with charming visuals, catchy music and fiendishly designed puzzles. The block combining gameplay of ツケカエゴーレム Tsukekae Golem is an ingenious concept and it allows for some very clever puzzle design that forces you to think very differently to most puzzle platformer games. Highly recommended.
