A Weekend at Villa Apate is a mind-blowing point and click thriller adventure where you time travel into your memories as you try to escape an adventure game convention alive.
Created for the Adventure Jam 2021, A Weekend at Villa Apate feels like a blend of Memento and Primer as you try to piece together your memories and use them to alter the past. In the game you take on the role of a musician called Paco, who has been working on a video game with his friend Marco. You’ve both gone to an Adventure Game convention, but you wake up in your hotel room with no memory of what happened and several people trying to kill you.
To piece together what’s going on you need to find momentos that trigger your memories. However, you don’t just remember those memories, you actually travel back in time and relive them, and the things you do while there can alter the past and the present. You need to figure out how to use this new found ability to figure out what’s going on and avoid being whacked in the process.
A Weekend at Villa Apate’s memory-based timeline manipulation is very unique and a total head**k (in a good way). It’s also got a great sense of humor, an excellent soundtrack and lots of crazy unexpected twists along the way. A wonderfully bewildering time-bending oddity full of charm, humor and fun surprises. Highly recommended.
