Anomalous Research Department (ARD) is a very creepy and surprising little horror game where you investigate cryptids on a cursed computer.
Previously released as a secret game hidden away on the Haunted PS1 Demo Disc 2021, Anomalous Research Department (ARD) is now playable in a browser and you really owe it to yourself to take a few minutes to check it out. It’s a short and very unsettling horror game created as a collaboration between Modus Interactive (creator of Sanguine Sanctum and official Siren Head Game), Trevor “Slimyswampghost” Henderson (the artist behind Siren Head and many other nightmarish creatures) and Corpsepile (creator of the excellent Submission).
In ARD you can explore the desktop of a long forgotten PC that was found in the basement of a local community college. It appears to have been used by something called the “Anomalous Research Department” and they used it to document sightings of cryptids. As you poke away at the emails and files on the computer you find that maybe the computer was best left alone…
To say too much about the contents of the computer will give away too much, but needless to say it throws up some great surprises and some terrifying moments. It’s a great little horror game that’s packed full of clever little touches. There’s something inherently eerie about poking around on a long forgotten computer anyway and what you discover on it will really freak you out! Highly recommended.
