Apple Sauce Apartments is a surreal and unsettling experimental horror adventure that explores capitalism at its worst as you collect payments for a greedy landlord from mold-infected apple people living in squalid apartments.
Created by Shallow Lagoon (creator of 3ternity), Apple Sauce Apartments is a surreal lo-fi psychological horror game set within an apartment block that’s infected with a mold that turns its human inhabitants into apples. A greedy landlord has sent you to collect their rent, which essentially means killing them so the landlord can eat them. As the game plays out you visit each tenant, learn about their life living on the wrong end of an overly greedy capitalist society, then decide whether you’ll harvest them for rent or not.
Taking around 15 minutes to play through, it’s a very intense adventure that really gets under your skin. Some of the dialogue is a little long-winded, but it is very well written and it does a good job of depicting the horrendous festering conditions the poor apple-people live in. The artwork is particularly impressive and it combines with the audio to make for a very unsettling experience. You won’t look at an apple in quite the same way again!
