Athenian Rhapsody: Thunder Goober’s Personality Dungeon is an absurd pixel art RPG adventure which promises each player an adventure that can’t be replicated by anyone else.
Athenian Rhapsody: Thunder Goober’s Personality Dungeon is a prequel/spin-off/demo of the upcoming Athenian Rhapsody game and sees you building your very own story based on your decisions. The game starts off with a short (and silly) personality test, then you’re teamed up with one of its 12 companion characters and you set off on an adventure inside the dungeon of a rather unhinged maniac called Thunder Goober.
The combat system is similar to UnderTale, with you able to dodge attacks in minigames then choose whether to attack, run away or befriend the enemy. There’s a lot more variety in your combat choices though, even when you encounter the same type of enemy.
It will draw comparisons to UnderTale/em> (especially with its combat system), but Athenian Rhapsody isn’t a shameless rip-off, it’s got its own personality and brings lots of fresh new ideas to the table too. The way your decisions shape the story is cleverly done and you’ll need to play through several times to see all the areas and bosses (and they’re certainly worthwhile). Highly recommended.
