Auf Abwegen is a strange little narrative driven game where you take on the role of a German astronaut from a distant future who is playing a long forgotten fox simulation game that a friend has sent to him.
You start Auf Abwegen staring at a faux computer interface and are called by a friend who has a surprise for you – an ancient piece of software that should help give you some perspective on what life used to be like on planet Earth. It’s a fox simulation game that’s split up into a puzzle platforming section and a rage-inducinly tough chase sequence.
The gameplay of the fox simulation in Auf Abwegen is incredibly tough and will cause many a rage-quit, but it’s an interesting game. The artwork is beautiful but it’s the clever storytelling that really impresses – you can piece a lot together about what has happened to the Earth by listenigng to your astronaut’s comments about the game he’s playing and his thoughts on the people who lived durign the time that it’s set. Highly recommended (if you’ve got a high rage-quit threshoold!)
