Aurora Railway is a short, sweet and surprisingly touching little narrative driven experience which plays out as a young penguin tries to keep himself amused during a long train journey.
As it only takes around five minutes to play through, we won’t spoil any of the plot points here, but suffice to say there’s more to Aurora Railway than initially meets the eye. It sees you controlling a young penguin as he takes a long journey home, playing games of “scene sledding” and chatting to a mysterious stranger. The scene sledding sections are fun, but it’s the chat’s with the stranger that are most interesting, giving you some valuable insights into life, love and loss.
It’s a beautiful little game, with charming pixel art visuals and an emotional narrative that most people will be able to identify with. You can see the ending coming a mile off, but that doesn’t make it any less impactful and the advice the stranger gives you is pretty profound. Highly recommended.
