Bellum.io is a very addictive blend of incremental clicking, real time strategy and massively multiplayer warfare as you build up an army and attempt to build up as big an empire as possible.
The goal of Bellum.io is to amass the largest armies, and conquer as much of the map as possible. You start out with just one square on the map (your base) and must click on the ‘+1 military button’ (much like in an incremental clicker) to earn enough military points to purchase units. Once you’ve purchased some units your military power increases automatically and you don’t have to worry too much about continually clicking the ‘+1 military button’, instead you put your sights on conquering the map!
How you spread your forces across the map is very strategic in Bellum.io, at first you’ll want to spread out towards empty bases. Capturing bases allows tou to purchase more units – the cap is 10 with your first base, then it increased by 5 with each base you capture. The key to building the biggest empire is diplomacy and alliances, but sometimes you just have to attack other players, even if it’s just in self defence.
Wars are expensive, but the victor will win bases and gain some points for killing the loser. Every little helps as you chase that elusive top spot on the scoreboard. Each round lasts 30 minutes, and the winner is decided by totting up the amount of bases, kills and units acquired throughout the round.
It can take a few minutes to wrap your head around the gameplay mechanics of Bellum.io, but once you get to grips with it, it can be a very addictive and deeply strategic massively multiplayer experience. Highly recommended.
