Blood Spear is a short and beautifully designed third person action adventure where dead knights are brought back to life by a demonic spear with a thirst for blood and power.
Created by students at ISART Digital Montréal, Blood Spear is a third person action adventure set in a corrupted medieval fantasy city that’s inhabited by a strange cult. In the game you take on the role of a demonic spear that has the ability to possess the body of dead warriors. After finding a host you then set forth into a corrupted world in search of blood to nourish your power.
The dark medieval fantasy setting and third person action gameplay in Blood Spear immediately draws comparisons to Dark Souls, but in reality Blood Spear is much more of a straight forward action adventure with a focus on ranged spear-throwing combat. You can throw an infinite amount of spears with deadly precision and you can also shatter them to cause even more damage.
Taking around 20 minutes to play through, there are no upgrades to collect and the game is pretty linear, but it’s a very well crafted experience with beautiful visuals, a fun lore and engaging gameplay. The world design is particularly impressive and really wouldn’t look out of place in one of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s classics. Highly recommended.
