Butcher Valley is a fun and freaky little 2D horror adventure where you get invited to stay for dinner by a strange family with a love of meat cakes.
In Butcher Valley you follow the adventure of Nora (a human) and Louie (a talking fox). After encountering a little car trouble on their way to the port of Oak Angel, they break down in a place called Butcher Valley. It’s a strange place and the locals seem to have a custom of placing meat cakes out in the streets in little shrines.
It appears that a lot of the locals won’t even answer their doors, but then you happen across the house of the Cannilys family and they welcome you in with open arms (and hungry stomachs). It appears the Cannilys family have a taste for meat pies made out of a special kind of meat. You now need to face the four family members and escape before you go from being a dinner guest to a dinner ingredient!
Taking around 30 minutes to play through, it’s a great little horror game with a wonderfully quirky sense of humor. The artwork and animation style of Butcher Valley is a little crude, but very distinctive and effective. The Cannilys family are delightfully horrid and feel very much like the type of truly awful antagonists you’d get in a Roald Dahl story. Those meat pies do look tasty though!
