Causeway is an evocative little branching narrative experience in which you make a series of important choices along the journey of life, all of which can have a dramatic effect on how your life plays out.
It takes less than five minutes for each playthough of Causeway, but depending on the choices you make throughout the results can be very different indeed. The game is played out via causeways of sand that branch off from islands that represent important points in your life – as well as providing a nice aesthetic the setting also serves as a nice metaphor for the sands of time and how the path you choose bisects the ocean of life.
The game starts with you leaving home and deciding whether to live in the countryside or the city, with each decision thereafter having a dramatic effect on your life, your success and your happiness. You can end up being an artist with a wife and kids or a borderline alcoholic who’s trapped in the rat race. The choices are yours to make and it’s certainly worth replaying a few times to see how your choices affect the narrative. It’s a short and impactful little game that may make you think about what’s really important in your life.
