Check in The Back is a delightful little visual novel/puzzle hybrid where you attempt to please cosplaying guests at a Comicon-style convention by finding their missing objects in the lost and found box.
Created for the Global Game Jam 2021, in Check in The Back you are a down on your luck 20-something who is attempting to make a good impression with your bosses as you work at a gig in a convention. You are in charge of the lost and found kiosk and must try to reconnect the various oddball cosplaying fans to their lost items.
Each convention patreon will chat to you and describe the item that they’ve lost and all you have to do is search through the items you have and find the correct one. It’s fairly easy to find the item that they’re looking for, but it also pays to be polite to them and engage in their cosplaying role when you talk to them. There are four different endings depending on your actions so it’s worth playing through multiple times.
Taking around 10 minutes to play through Check in The Back is a very charming little game with a lot of love for geeky fandom. The artwork and writing is excellent and the characters are very endearing. Sure they all seem pretty odd when you first meet them, but they’re just having fun and it’s not nice to yuck anyone’s yum!
