CONURBATION is a very intense, unsettling and surreal experimental game about trying to restore nature to a noisy urban environment.
In CONURBATION you essentially find yourself caught in the middle of a fight between nature and the sprawling mass of city architecture. You start the game in an idyllic, peaceful setting filled with trees and beautiful lights that seem to symbolize life. However, in the distance you can see the red haze of the city…
The city is a very inhospitable place, filled with looming tower block, people, cars and a cacophony of noise. There are a few trees scattered around the urban environment that can offer a very brief respite from the noise of city life, and by touching them you can activate (or perhaps pollinate them). For the most part though, the city is a genuinely horrible place to be and you really find yourself yearning for a return to the idyllic greenery of the opening scene of the game.
Taking around 10 minutes to play through, CONURBATION is an unpleasant, but effective little experience that really grinds you down with its unrelenting wall of noise. It assaults your senses and by the end you’ll be yearning for a nice little trip into the country!
