Cuphead: You Can’t Run Away From God is a crazy Cuphead fan game which sees you blasting your way through a marvellous mash-up of movies, TV shows, memes, cartoons and video games.
Created by Jan Ski (creator of Enter the Void to the Holy Mountain) is a crazy Cuphead fangame set across 15 eclectic stages. The gameplay is similar to the original Cuphead game (although you can’t do charged shots and you can’t lock in place and fire) and it’s even playable in two player. The big difference is the levels, which forgo the classic cartoony visuals for a crazed mash-up of FMV, Vaporwave, Python-esque photoshop, animation and all manner of other oddities.
Each level has its own music track and visual style, all set in some wonderfully outlandish locations. One minute you may be jumping on ghosts to help two cute little panda’s screw and the next you’ll be enrolled in a bizarre mash-up of Friday Night Funkin and Squid Game.
The only downside at the moment is that when playing with a controller you need to use the analog stick (as in the official Cuphead game a D-pad would offer more precision). The lack of precision does grate at times and it is a very hard game, but it’s never boring and is gloriously entertaining. A chaotic and creative Cuphead adventure well worth checking out.
