Daemon Detective Racing Zero is a futuristic F-Zero style racer with chaotic congestion, a whole lot of hang-time and boosts that can make you go at insane speeds!
Daemon Detective Racing Zero features 30 playable characters taken from the Daemon Detective, Shattered World, Gun Princess, and Final Columbus games, each with their own unique stats and vehicles. It also has 30 race tracks split up across five championships, an excellent soundtrack and split-screen local multiplayer for up to four players.
Visually and gameplay-wise Daemon Detective Racing Zero is most akin to F-Zero X on the Nintendo 64, with 30 racers hurtling at high speeds along twisty gravity-defying low poly tracks. Unlike F-Zero X you don’t have fog to deal with though, which is good because in Daemon Detective Racing Zero you really need to see as far ahead of you as possible – you can often end up going so fast that you soar into he sky and leave the track far below you.
There are boost pads scattered around the tracks and you can also chain together jump boost and slide boosts to keep your speed up. However, you can also get up to some incredible speeds just by getting bashed about in congestion and there are also Mario Kart-esque power-ups that you can collect and use – such as boosts, bananas and bombs.
Daemon Detective Racing Zero does perhaps lack the polish of Nintendo’s F-Zero franchise but it’s got a nice amount of content and it’s a whole lot of fun. Driving on the tracks is a blast, but it’s when you go so fast that you leave the track that it really comes into its own, with you leaving your opponents to eat your dust, but also hoping to god that you manage to land on the tiny strip of track below you. F-Zero X with a lot more speed and a whole lot more chaos. Highly recommended.
