Dead County is a fun little PS1 styled zombie survival horror game, inspired by 90s classics, where you attempt to make your way home in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.
Drawing inspiration from Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark and Silent Hill, Dead County is a short homage to the PS1 era of survival horror games. In the game you step into the shoes of a delivery driver who has a little trouble getting home after a zombie apocalypse breaks out. The roads are blocked and his van is out of service following a zombie-related accident, but his home isn’t too far, perhaps he can make it on foot…
Taking around 20 minutes to play through, Dead County sees you scavenging for weapons, blasting zombies and making your way through a zombie-infested town to reach your home. It’s not particularly scary, instead it feels like a fun slice of nostalgia and a tongue-in cheek live letter to the classic 90’s survival horror – complete with fixed camera angles, blocky graphics, RE-style door opening sequences, inventory management, slow shuffling zombies and tank controls.
It’s perhaps not the place to go if you’re looking for a scary survival horror game, but well worth checking out for a fun little homage to the classics. A great little slice of zombie blasting nostalgia.
