Dead Horizon is a dark and gritty Wild West adventure that draws inspiration from classic light gun games like Wild Gunmen and Mad Dog McCree, telling a tale of Bonnie Starr – an infamous pistoleer who finds redemption at the end of a gun.
Taking around 10 minutes to complete, Dead Horizon tells the story of Bonnie Starr through a series of quick-draw gun fights, from learning to shoot, to picking fights in the bar, to a final showdown that may earn her some form of redemption for the life she’s lived. Each scene is perfectly framed as you face off against your foe and the quickdraw gameplay is very well implemented, with you dipping the cursor below the screen to pull your gun, then attempting to aim and fire before your opponent shoots you.
It’s a very atmospheric and stylish game with fantastic pixel art visuals and a sombre audio score. Each of the gunfights are unavoidable, but with each one, Bonnie ends up going down a dark path with no return, making each gunshot feel like another nail in her coffin. It’s fitting then that her chance to atone for the trail of bodies she leaves in her wake is by leaving just one more.
