DESPONDENT is a stylish, surreal and visually striking third person abstract experience that sees you in the pursuit of hope in a land filled with despair.
Taking around five minutes to complete, DESPONDENT’s strange and wordless experience takes place in an oppressive mechanical city and sees you searching for light within its grim, grey streets. The majority of the game just requires you to walk forward towards the light, but there are a few sections that shake up the gameplay a bit.
It’s more about taking in the experience though – feeling the oppression of the towering grey mechanical architecture, witnessing the despondency of those who have succumbed to the hopelessness and racing towards the light in the distance with a hope of getting there before your light runs out. Maybe reaching the light isn’t what’s important though, it’s keeping the glimmer of hope burning inside you when the whole world seems to want to put it out. A powerful audio/visual experience that delivers a fitting message for these troubled times.
