Doodle Alive is a cleverly crafted 2x2D puzzle platformer where you can instantly switch between 2D side-on platforming and top-down gameplay at the touch of a button.
A little like (the also excellent) Toodee and Topdee, Doodle Alive is a wonderfully inventive puzzle platformer where you can switch between the perspectives your character is operating on. This means you can control your little doodle character like a traditional 2D platformer one moment, then at the touch of a button switch to a top-down sokoban-esque style of gameplay.
While in side-on platforming mode your character is affected by gravity but can go anywhere they want. Meanwhile, when you’re playing from a top-down perspective you’re not affected by gravity but you have to stay within the confines of the scraps of paper on each level. The key is figuring out how to combine these two gameplay styles to help you make your way through each cleverly designed level.
It’s a fun game with a great concept, charming visuals and lots of inventive puzzle design. It may look cute, but things get pretty tough later on!
