Dreader – Browser Game

Dreader delivers a very intense and inventive fourth wall-breaking twist on mouse maze horror (internet screamer) games as you make your way down through a series of dungeons while playing alone(ish) in your room on a dark and stormy night.

Created by Donitz, creator of ON.OFF and Mirror VR, Dreader is a clever reimagining of the jump-scare laden mouse maze horror games of the early 00’s. In the game you see through the eyes of your character as they sit in front of a computer screen on a stormy night playing a video game.

Your character is playing a mouse maze game where he has to navigate mazes without touching the edges and each time he completes a level he descends deeper down a dungeon. However, the game seems to be a little bit buggy and you may not be as alone as you first thought…

It takes around 10 minutes to play through Dreader and it’s a very tense, atmospheric and surprising experience. It doesn’t rely on the cheap jump-scares of the classic mouse maze horror games, instead it builds a deep feeling of dread and unease as you play. The actual mouse maze levels are well designed too, with lots of inventive twists on the formula to keep you on your toes. Highly recommended.
