Eldritchvania is a La Mulana-esque action platforming metroidvania where you explore ancient ruins and attempt to save your son from Eldritch horrors.
In Eldritchvania you are an ageing occultist whose son went missing while exploring some ancient ruins on a small remote Scottish island. The ruins are home to cultists, deadly traps and all manner of Lovecraftian horrors. You’ll do well to escape alive and with your sanity intact.
Eldritchvania is a large and challenging game with a 6-8 hour playtime which will see you dying MANY times along the way. The combat is fairly simplistic, but the puzzles are pretty tough and require you to pay close attention to clues and search everywhere for secrets. As well as managing your health, you’ll also need to keep an eye on your sanity too – the more you lose, the more you start having nightmarish visions, more enemies appear and you even start to get chased by an unkillable entity.
It’s a game that’s definitely not for casual gamers, but if you’re looking for a metroidvania with some old school challenge then Eldritchvania will be for you. The artwork is fantastic (especially when your sanctity levels are low) and there’s a real joy in discovering its many closely guarded secrets. Highly recommended.
