From Next Door is a creepy retro Game Boy styled horror game which follows a young woman who moves into a house that has a very freaky neighbor.
Drawing inspiration from the works of Junji Ito and games like Silent Hill, in From Next Door you follow the adventure of Namie, a young woman who has just moved into a house that she’s renting at a price that’s “too good to be true”. Obviously there’s a reason for the low price and it soon becomes apparent that it has to do with your elusive neighbor, your spare bedroom window and a lot of missing people who lived in the house before you.
Taking around an hour to play through, From Next Door takes place over the course of several days, with you getting settled into your new home and slowly unravelling more of the mystery about your neighbor. There are a few minor puzzles to solve and branching pathways that lead to multiple endings, depending on your choices and what clues and items you discover.
From Next Door contains barely any music, but the audio design of the sound fx is excellent, especially when your neighbor is lurking about. The retro styled visuals work well and the narrative is equally intriguing and unsettling. Highly recommended.
