Frontiers of the Mind is a very strange and creepy retro multimedia CD-ROM styled experience that explored the dark past of a British kid’s TV show from the 80s/90s, that looks an awful lot like Knightmare.
In Frontiers of the Mind you can explore an extensive database of images, videos and information about a kid’s game show called Maze Masters that ran from 1987 to 1994. This show is pretty much Knightmare – a show where a team of kids would try to guide a blindfolded teammate through monster and trap-filled dungeons. However, the database seems to be a little corrupt, and it appears the show had some very dark secrets.
It’s a fascinating experience delving into the extensive archives of Frontiers of the Mind. There’s a nice mixture of real (often hideously deformed) Knightmare screenshots and artwork, and creepy new stuff, accompanied by some fascinating lore. It’s packed full of content and even has some well hidden secrets (check the credits screen to find where to start looking). A fantastic homage to Knightmare and a remarkable experience in its own right. Highly recommended.
