Gregore is a brutal PS1 styled third person stealth action game that plays like if Metal Gear Solid was a 90’s arcade game.
There’s no dialogue in Gregore, but it’s set in the year 2027 and seems to revolve around a vigilante with a big sword and a quest for vengeance. You take on the role of the titular character as he fights his way through two unique stages and faces off against three powerful bosses. The stealth action gameplay feels like what would happen if Metal Gear Solid was a SEGA arcade game. The stealth and the combat is nowhere near as complex as Snake’s adventures but it’s much more fast paced and is a lot of fun.
The best way to dispatch guards is to sneak up behind them and chop their heads off. If you do get spotted you still have a fighting chance though – you can attack, block, parry and switch your sword to an alternate mode that drains your health but restores health each time you hit an enemy. The three bosses are another matter though, they’re pretty tough, and you’ll need to learn their attack patterns to stand a chance against them.
You can play through Gregore in around 15 minutes, but there’s lots of extra content to discover too. It has three unique endings, three unlockable costumes and it even has a bunch of Metal Gear style VR missions. It’s a great game that delivers a fast paced and arcadey take on stealth action. It’s got tons of style and the soundtrack it superb. Highly recommended.
