House Call is a charming and surprisingly touching little cat simulator, where you attempt to avoid your owner’s annoying grandchildren and then go outside for prowls around afterward.
In House Call you take control of an elderly woman’s cat who really isn’t fond of the attention of the grandchildren that come to visit periodically. Your aim is to run and hide from them while they visit, whilst also venturing out to get some food and water (a cat’s gotta eat). Once you get to grips with it avoiding the children isn’t too hard and once they leave you can go for a peaceful wander outside.
When you go outside House Call turns into more of a walking simulator style of game, allowing you to wander around aimlessly without the need to eat food or avoid children. It’s a peaceful neighborhood with lots of strange sights to see and quirky animals to chat to. When you’re done you simply go back home and the game progresses to the next season.
There are four seasons in total in House Call (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter), with the house decor and the outdoor environment changing significantly throughout. There’s even an important piece of environmental storytelling that you may pick up on if you pay attention to some of the items in the house, which gives you a little heads up about things going on in your owner’s life.
It’s a charming little game that allows you to create Catlateral Damage style carnage as you run and jump around your owner’s house avoiding the kids, but also delivers a chilled-out outdoor exploration element and a heartfelt narrative. A fun little cat simulator that’s not just about wrecking things and being an a**hole! Highly recommended.
