If On A Winter’s Night, Four Travelers is a fantastic narrative-driven point and click horror adventure where four characters exchange macabre stories while travelling on a mysterious 1920’s steam train.
In If On A Winter’s Night, Four Travelers you meet four masked strangers who are chatting at a masquerade ball being held on a train. The strangers don’t know each other and they don’t even know how they got there, but most of them have one thing in common – they have a tragic horror story to tell. A story that well may be their last…
Taking around an hour and a half to play through, If On A Winter’s Night, Four Travelers expertly tells the four strangers tragic tales. The gameplay is mainly narrative-driven but there are a few puzzles throughout and they can be surprisingly complex and inventive. The stories and settings are all very different and as they play out you really feel for the characters and their torment.
It really is a fantastic game. Everything in it oozes class and quality – from the writing to the sound design. The pixel art animation is particularly impressive, with some incredible backgrounds and each character having bespoke animations for pretty much every interaction they have throughout the course of their sorrowful stories. It’s easily one of the best point and click adventures released in recent times and the fact that it’s free is astounding. Highly recommended.
