Infinite Monkeys – Browser Game

Infinite Monkeys is a quirky little idle game where you try to get a finite amount of monkeys to type out the entirety of Shakespeare’s King Lear.

Infinite Monkeys is a fun twist on the hypothesis that one monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time (or an infinite amount of monkeys hitting a typewriter for a finite time) will end up writing everything humankind has ever written just by chance (including the complete works of William Shakespeare). In the game you start with one monkey who randomly whacks away at its typewriter and everytime it gets a letter right then the text (the entirety of King Lear), shifts to the next letter and you earn a little cash. You can then use this cash to purchase incremental upgrades (more monkeys and more speed), which will make the whole process a little faster.

Obviously Infinite Monkeys is cheating a little as the Infinite Monkeys Theorem uses an infinite amount of monkeys (or time) and doesn’t just cherry pick the correct letters from all the bad ones (so everytime a monkey got a letter wong you’d have to start from the beginning again). However, it’s a fun take on the theory and it makes for an oddly addictive experience. Once you’ve got a few upgrades you’ll be amazed at how quickly your finite number of monkeys hammer out that Shakespear script. Imagine how quickly an infinite number of them could do it in!
