Landfall Archives – Downloadable Game

Landfall Archives is a wonderfully weird collection of unfinished prototypes from Landfall, the creators of TABS, Stick Fight and Clustertruck.

As is tradition now, Landfall release a quirky (often unfinished) game in time for April 1st, but this year they’ve really outdone themselves. Landfall Archives features an eclectic collection of 22 unfinished games/prototypes/demos that are filled with creative ideas and physics-based carnage.

Some of the games are very rough and bare bones (and sometimes with no audio), but they all have interesting ideas behind them and there are some genuine gems in there. There’s an early version of TABS, a Worms-like with physics-based environmental destruction and an online PvP FPS with fully destructible levels. But the real highlights are probably Anything For My Pals (think first person Abe’s Odyssey with wobbly jelly people) and Robots Forever 2 (an FPS with robots that you can destroy piece-by-piece).

It’s a real joy poking around in the Landfall Archives and even if most of the games are cancelled, it’s nice that they’ve been released in some form. Hopefully Anything For My Pals and Robots Forever see some form of full release in the future though (or the ideas are used somewhere) as they have a ton of potential. Highly recommended.
