Lily’s Well is a dark and disturbing retro styled horror adventure where a young girl sets out to investigate after she hears someone crying for help at the bottom of a well.
In Lily’s Well you follow the story of Lily, a young girl who is at home alone while her father is out at work. During the night Lily hears cries of help coming from the well near her house so she sets out to investigate. To get down the well she’ll need to gather and tie together various materials to use as a makeshift rope. However, getting some of those rope pieces can be a little tricky and if you venture into the well with not enough rope then you’ll end up dying a horrible death (while also unlocking a different ending).
It can take a few goes to wrap your head around the fact that you really don’t want to be picking up every rope-like material (as your character will automatically use them to build the rope even if they’re too weak to hold your weight). Once you get to grips with your rope-building then there’s a lot to like about Lily’s Well. The retro MS-DOS style visuals work well, there are some cleverly designed puzzles and there are ten main endings, one Alt ending, three Alt Dead End endings and one true ending to unlock. The narrative really packs a punch and the various endings are a real highlight, particularly as you descend further down the well. Highly recommended.
