Luminous is a stylish retro action platforming adventure in which you set out to vanquish darkness from the land, but what is the real source of the darkness in your life?
In Luminous you take control of Keith, a normal looking guy with a big sword and a guardian angel that follows him wherever he goes. Your quest is to gather light fragments and light up the beacons across the games four levels. Unless you’re incredibly skilled or incredibly lucky, it’s likely that you’ll die more than a few times on your adventure, which is when your guardian angel starts to show his true colors…
It’s a clever little game, with stylish retro pixel art animation and a thought provoking narrative with four possible endings. The platforming in Luminous does feel a little bit clunky (particularly due to the controls), but it’s possible that’s a deliberate part of the game design – geared towards making you feel inadequate and fueling the voice that voice that keeps saying you’re not good enough. Are you good enough?
