Lurid Dreams Vol. 1 is a surreal, claustrophobic and inventive little PS1 styled first person horror game where you search for clues to give you access to a weird meat club.
The retro styled Lurid Dreams Vol. 1 is essentially a game of two halves, with the first half of the game seeing you searching for clues in a dark woodland and the second half taking place in a weird fleshy underground dance club. The clues that you find are displayed on four glowing TV screens scattered around the woodland and actually require you to put a piece of paper up to the screen and trace them, with all four clues joining up to create something you need to access the weird meat club. The woodland is a pretty creepy place to explore, thanks to your limited viewing distance, strange stone statues and atmospheric lighting, but things really start to get freaky once you enter the club…
Taking around 10 minutes to play through, Lurid Dreams Vol. 1 is a short, but very intense experience, that has a very foreboding atmosphere and some very strange sights. The retro PS1 aesthetics work well and the fact that you have to use pen and paper to trace the clues is a great touch. A bizarre retro nightmare well worth checking out.
