Lycanthorn 2: Rain of Beasts is a fantastic Castlevania inspired DOOM Total Conversion mod metroidvania adventure with four playable characters, a large open world and lots of big boss fights to deal with!
A sequel to the also excellent Lycanthorn, Lycanthorn 2: Rain of Beasts follows on from the adventures of the vampire-hunting werewolf of the original and ups the ante in every single way. The biggest change is that while the original was a linear level-based experience, Lycanthorn 2: Rain of Beasts is a full-on open world adventure, where you explore a large monster-filled world and battle your way through dungeons.
Rain, the vampire-hunting werewolf from the original, is your primary playable character in the sequel, but you also unlock new characters as you play. Each character has their own unique attacks and abilities that can give you access to new areas, and you can switch between each character instantly by rolling the mouse wheel (much like switching weapons in an FPS).
It takes around 1-2 hours to play through Lycanthorn 2: Rain of Beasts and it’s a very well crafted experience. The open world design is pretty remarkable, the different characters all really help to shake-up the gameplay, there’s a vast array of monsters and bosses to fight and the visual design is fantastic. It really does feel like a first person Castlevania game and it’s easily the best 3D Castlevania game ever made.
