I easily “recompiled” Mario Editor to run on my 5-year old son’s iMac, using the free program called WINE, available at winehq.org

All you have to do is install WINE, then download and unzip Mario Editor. Double click the .exe for Mario Editor and Wine “Bottler” will launch and offer to create a Mac OS X “app” (single, double-clickable file). The resulting file has the correct Mario Editor icon, and runs entirely within Mac OS X (any version) without needing to have Windows nor any part of Windows. It “just works”. (You must be sure to select the WINE option to include all files within the same folder as the .exe — read more about how to do this at winehq.org — it’s a very simple process and takes less that 1 minute.

That’s why I put “recompiled” in quotation marks in my first sentence. It isn’t really recompiling the Windows app, but is “packaging” it into a single, double-clickable file that runs on any Mac. By the way, the performance on an old Mac is very, very fast – no lag whatsoever.

I used the exact same process to “recompile” other apps for my son’s computer, including FNAF World, etc.
