Monophobia is a beautiful, powerful and unsettling story about a girl who is the last living person on Earth.
In Monophobia you spend a day with a girl who appears to be the last person alive after a virus wiped out Humanity. She never leaves her house and is clearly struggling with trauma and depression. As you walk around her house you then learn about her life and how she’s coping with it.
There’s very little in the way of gameplay in Monophobia (it’s essentially a visual novel created in RPG Maker), but the storytelling is incredibly powerful. You really get sucked into the mindspace of the troubled young woman and it goes to some very dark places, as well as delivering some incisive social commentary. Just as incredible is the artwork though – it’s created entirely from digitally scanned watercolor paintings and it makes for a very unique and mesmerising experience. Highly recommended.
