Monster in the Basement is an inventive little first person puzzle adventure where you use your memories as you investigate a tentacle infestation.
Monster in the Basement explores themes of mindfulness and suppressed memories as you get to the root of the tentacles that have infested your house. The tentacles aren’t dangerous, but they do block your path and you need to figure out how to deal with them before you can move on.
Memories are integral to Monster in the Basement. You have the ability to take a snapshot of any room/memory, place it on a wall and then walk through it into the exact place where the picture was taken in the first place. It’s a bit like the portals in Portal, but it also takes you back in time too.
Taking around 15 minutes to play through, it’s a wonderful little game with inventive puzzle mechanics, a charming visual style and a meaningful message about mindfulness. A very pleasant puzzler about learning to take a deep breath and accept the past. Highly recommended.
