Mystery Tapes is a wonderful abstract experience in which you use a collection of 640 video cassettes to create a wide array of fantastic audio visual landscapes.
You start in a small area, with 640 different titled video cassettes on the ground and three different TV/VCR’s to insert them into. You then select video tapes you like the look of and insert them into the VCRs, causing pulsing abstract visuals and strange audio tracks to load up, as well as an odd god-like moon-being that spouts random phrases when you go near it.
It’s a beautiful and bizarre audio/visual experience that feels a little like you’re trapped in a VCR that’s chewed the tape. There are over 43 million possible combinations, care to try them all?
