Nightmare is a very stylish and very weird wave based arena shooter where you attempt to survive for as long as possible against hordes of synthetic demons.
Taking place in a bizarre dystopian future after World War IV, Nightmare is a wave-arena shooter created to entertain the masses. The combatants in it are AIs that are datamined from Tumblr profiles and rendered into robotic anime girl bodies. Survivors are told that they have a chance to ascend to digital heaven, but apparently the government has corrupted the program for nefarious means. Bottom line, nobody is getting into digital heaven and you need to fight to try and screw up the leaderboard to undo their plans.
What all this essentially means is that you need to try and survive for as long as possible against increasingly challenging waves of enemies in a monster-filled arena. There are different weapons to collect, you can stop time and at every few rounds you can choose a stackable perk to increase your chances of survival.
The movement feels a little slidey and imprecise, so don’t expect DOOM levels of precision, but once you get to grip with it then it’s a fun game. It’s got tons of style, the setting/lore is very inventive and the guns are satisfyingly beefy. See if you can shoot your Tumblr-powered robotic anime girl AI into digital heaven!
