Of Man and War is a powerful narrative adventure in which a WWII soldier contemplates about how he coped with the horrors of war.
In Of Man and War you take on the role of an American WWII soldier as he reminisces about the atrocities of the war, but also the beauty and love in the world that helped get him through it. The game is broken up into five acts, alternating between memories of war and memories of loved ones and homelife. Each scene is pretty powerful, thanks to the beautiful 2.5D artwork and the well voiced narrative that makes some profound observations throughout – such as the tanks that look invincible but are reduced to smouldering wrecks and the way the game paints the enemy soldiers as real people, rather than generic baddies.
The gameplay in Of Man and War is fairly simple, you just walk and press ‘E’ occasionally, but the excellent artwork and the powerful narrative make it a captivating experience from start to finish. It’s a beautiful, emotional and insightful look at the atrocities of war and the things that help you through it. Highly recommended.
