Okiku is a freaky first person horror game that draws from real Japanese folklore as a cursed doll haunts a sake bar.
In Okiku you take on the role of a student who has an interest in the paranormal and has been called to help dispel a cursed doll that’s caused a local sake bar and restaurant to close down. The doll in question is Okiku, which is said to be inhabited by the spirit of a young girl and has real human hair that grows. It seems that the owner of the sake bar stole the doll from a temple in hopes that it would bring good fortune to his bad. It’s definitely had the opposite effect!
Taking around 15 minutes to play through, Okiku is a tense little horror game with an interesting lore and a nice mixture of gameplay elements. There’s a little exploration, some stealth, some puzzle solving, a little game of hide and seek, and plenty of horror. Some of the scripted jump scares work better than others, but even still it’s a lot of fun and the Okiku doll is suitably terrifying.
