PEOPLEMON is a short and satirical Game Boy styled Pokémon parody where you catch PEOPLE and make them fight.
In PEOPLEMON you take on the role of a novice PEOPLE trainer. It turns out that in this Pokémon inspired retro monochrome world “PEOPLE” are very different from “people”. PEOPLE are annoying and irritating Pokémon-esque creatures that love to fight, while people are just normal humans who use PEOPLE in fights. Under the tutelage of Professor Woke, you will catch PEOPLE and use them to fight other PEOPLE trainers as you attempt to defeat the President-elect of the PEOPLE.
The gameplay in PEOPLEMON is similar to the original Game Boy Pokémon games, with you able to explore the game world, chat to NPCs, catch wild PEOPLE on your pPhone and use them in turn based battles. The gameplay isn’t as deep as Pokémon, with only a handful of different types of PEOPLE to catch, no levelling and fairly basic attack choices, but it’s a fun take on the classic pocket monster battling mechanics.
PEOPLEMON takes around 30 minutes to play through and although the PEOPLE catching/battling gameplay isn’t too deep, it really impresses with its dark satirical humor. There are some great lines of dialogue throughout, and the descriptions of the PEOPLE you catch are all very clever,, While learning who their leader is comes as no surprise, the final ending is very well done. Highly recommended.
