Project Afterlife is a narrative driven horror adventure/visual novel that tells the story of a group of scientists who are attempting to find out the secrets of the afterlife.
Based on a short story by Born-Beach, in Project Afterlife you follow the story of a small group of scientists who are doing research on the afterlife. They have found a way to bring the dead back to life after three days so that they can ask them what lies in the great beyond. However, those that return don’t live long, they’re in considerable pain and what they have to say might not be good…
There’s very little in the way of interactivity in Project Afterlife (so it is quite a linear visual novel style experience), but the RPG Maker style visuals are great and the story is beautifully told. It’s a tense and unsettling experience that manages to squeeze a surprising amount of dread and terror from its retro pixel art stylings. Highly recommended.
