Ritual Bound is a macabre ritual-based horror puzzle game where a witch attempts to rebind a powerful magical entity that’s in danger of escaping.
Created for the Godot Jam 4, Ritual Bound is a horror puzzle game where you are a witch who is tasked with watching over a prison that’s home to an ancient evil entity. The seal that keeps the entity trapped in there will break tonight so you need to perform the ritual to renew it, but it’s a complicated ritual and the witch hunters are hot on your tail. Even if you do manage to complete the ritual, it’s very likely you won’t survive the night.
You have all the equipment and ingredients required for the ritual laid out before you, but you’ll need to figure out how to correctly use them. Thankfully your predecessor left some books filled with useful knowledge, but you’ll still need to be careful not to make any mistakes!
The pixel art visuals and audio design in Ritual Bound are excellent, the puzzles are satisfyingly tricky and there’s lots of interesting lore to discover. The real highlight is the monster though – it’s a sentient and conversational being that shows no animosity towards you as you attempt to bind it away for many more years. It’s intelligent enough to know that you’re just performing your duties and doesn’t resent you for your actions. Highly recommended.
