Rolling Bird is a very cool and very tough retro side scrolling shooter that sees you dodging bullets and blasting enemies as you infiltrate a hideout packed with heavily armed terrorists.
Drawing inspiration from Namco’s 1986 Rolling Thunder, Rolling Bird is a stylish and super challenging retro arcade game that sees you infiltrating a terrorist hideout to investigate a mysterious product called the “Vaccum Filter”. What this means for you is a series of side-scrolling levels filled with deadly enemies to dispatch while being chased by an automated gun turret.
The enemies come in different colors, each of which signifies what type of weapon they use (fists, hand guns, grenades, etc.). The action is very fast paced with you dodging bullets and jumping between the top and bottom level on your race towards the end of each level. There are doors you can enter for a little respite, and some of them (with an emblem above them) will top up your ammo and your body armor – but you’ll still need some serious skill to get to the end!
You’ll die a lot in Rolling Bird, but it’s a very addictive little game. The ZX Spectrum/Commodore 64 era visuals look very cool and the fast paced arcade combat is very intense. Highly recommended.
