S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1989 is a fun little side-scrolling arcade demake of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. where you run and shoot your way through the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
In S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1989 you don your hazmat suit and blast your way through a single side-scrolling level that answers the question “what if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was made in 1989?”. It plays much like Contra, but with a slightly slower pace and more of a focus on accuracy. As you fight your way through the wasteland you’ll deal with various different types of enemy and even have a showdown with a big boss.
It’s very hard and requires quick reflexes and memorizing enemy locations. You only have three lives to beat the game’s single level, but there are checkpoints so it doesn’t seem too unfair. It makes for a fun little fusion of retro arcade action and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. style post-apocalyptic wastelands well worth checking out.
