Scarred Stars is a charming looking horror game that takes some surprisingly dark turns as a girl gets trapped in an abandoned amusement park with her worst fears.
In Scarred Stars you follow the story of Asuka, a Japanese girl who has snuck into an abandoned amusement park with her friend Momoko. However, soon after entering the park, Momoko runs off and Asuka is left alone, where she’s soon joined by some of her worst fears…
The gameplay in Scarred Stars focuses on puzzle solving and evading/hiding from monsters that lurk in the amusement park. Evading the monsters is pretty easy (you just run and hide in a grandfather clock), but there are some fun little puzzles to figure out and two endings to discover depending on how successful you are.
The monster chases aren’t particularly scary, but it’s the dark narrative at the center of Scarred Stars that’s really horrifying. The charming RPG Maker style visuals belie some genuinely shocking moments and the story takes some very dark turns. Highly recommended.
