Seamongrel is a wholesome little horror game where a date at the local aquarium takes a sinister turn.
In Seamongrel Theo and Kim are off on an anniversary date at a local aquarium that was hastily arranged by Theo at the last minute. This has caused a little tension between the couple, and they spend the start of their date arguing. However, it’s not long until the lights go out and they’re attacked by mutant fish-monsters. They’ll need to work together if they want to avoid becoming fish food!
Seamongrel takes around 30 minutes to play through and plays a little like an RPG Maker game (though it’s made in Unity). The turn-based combat is basic, but works well and there’s a constant stream of new abilities to unlock. Also, each encounter is a bespoke boss battle, so there’s no grinding away against the same type of monster again and again.
The real draw is the writing though – it’s packed full of great gags and plenty of fun little jibes between the couple (that make them feel a lot more like a real couple). Sure it may not be an ideal date, but it will certainly be a memorable one for them!
