SEPTEMBER 1999 is a freaky little VHS found footage styled horror game in which you explore an apartment where some disturbing scenes unfold over the course of 12 days.
There’s very little in the way of interaction in SEPTEMBER 1999. Instead you explore each scene for a short amount of time until the time jumps forward and you’re presented with another scene to explore. Each scene takes place within the confines of a hallway and bedroom, with the scenes inside the bedroom getting more and more horrifying as the game progresses.
It only takes five and a half minutes to play through SEPTEMBER 1999 and your interactions are pretty limited, but it’s a great piece of game design. The found footage visual style is superb, really immersing you into the experience, and the audio design does a great job of building up the tense atmosphere. It’d be nice to see it expanded on in the future, but even in its current form it’s a fantastic five minutes of found footage horror.
