Shines Over is a surreal first person horror game which with themes of guilt and loss, told through a non-linear timeline where much of what you are seeing may be in your head.
Taking around 20 minutes to play through, the narrative of Shines Over is pretty confusing, with it flitting backwards and forwards in time and you being haunted by visions of a woman and a demonic entity. Nothing is spelled out for you and the whole thing is very surreal, but there are elements of imprisonment, astral projection and demonic rituals.
There are a few grammatical errors and it’s a pretty linear experience, with you simply slowly walking towards different areas to trigger new events, but it’s got a great sense of atmosphere and it has three different endings depending on your actions. As in a David Lynch film, you’re never too sure what exactly is going on in Shines Over, but you’ll be able to make some form of conclusion by the end and the whole thing is a very tense and unsettling experience that really gets under your skin.
