Silence the Sun is a beautifully animated side-scrollling shoot ‘em up where you control a weird flying eyeball monster that’s been summoned to Earth to annihilate a corrupted fortress.
Created by a group of 13 students from The Game Assembly, Silence the Sun is a short, stylish and intense side-scrolling shoot ‘em up that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that’s ruled by forces hidden within a massive fortress. You take on the role of an odd looking flying eyeball creature that’s been summoned to Earth to destroy the fortress and those that control it and put an end to their tyranny.
The visual style is quite different, but the gameplay and overall structure of the game is fondly reminiscent of Tadpole Tales. There are three levels, each with challenging boss fights. You can collect power-ups to upgrade your firepower and you can also unleash two different special attacks that do some serious damage.
It’s a great little side-scrolling shoot ’em up with challenging and addictive gameplay, vibrant visuals, a nice variety of enemies and big boss fights. It is a short game, but definitely worth taking for a spin and the quality of animation in the cutscenes is a particular highlight. Go forth with your eyeball monster and wreak havoc upon the Earth!
