Silent Mementos is a freaky fusion of first person and second person horror where Super 8 Camera recordings help you explore a house that your boyfriend has gone missing in.
Created by Olinkalex (creator of Cage-Face and The Possession Experiment), Silent Mementos is a short horror adventure that follows the story of a young woman who goes in search of her missing boyfriend in a strange old house. When she gets to the house you finds that nobody’s there, but the door is open so you steps inside. you soon finds your partner has definitely been there, and that he’s left notes and a series of projector reels that have been filmed on an old Super 8 camera. However you don’t know if he managed to escape, and you’re not sure if you will either…
Silent Mementos is played from two different perspectives – first person from the girlfriend’s point of view and second person as the girlfriend watches the Super 8 footage filled by her boyfriend. It’s a clever concept that works really well, with you initially seeing each new area and solving puzzles in them via the boyfriend’s footage, then being able to explore them in first person yourself.
Taking around 15 minutes to play through, it’s a cleverly crafted little horror game that has some fun twists, a tense atmosphere and inventive use of the second person perspective. A superb little Super 8 horror adventure well worth checking out.
